Documentary on responsible young dads #2012

It’s official! I will be shooting my first documentary in 2 weeks. I’m telling the story of young single dads who are making it a top priority to take care of their children. This effort is to begin to erase the current negative stigma that society has of young fathers- they are your brother, your son and your friend. Premier viewing party will follow later this year. Your support is appreciated!!!

NC becoming desired location for Films
North Carolina continues to gain popularity with as a location for motion pictures. Find A Way: Don’t Eat the Devil’s Dog Food  is being directed by esteemed actor Burgess Jenkins (Remember the Titans), and is starring multiple members of his Carolina Actors Group, including writer, executive producer and star Cornelius Muller. Casting began in January and Friday night hundreds of extras filled Rhodes Stadium at Elon University for the football game opening scene of the movie. The film is based on a fictional character inspired by the life of Harry Cohen. The Williams High School star quarterback died in September 2011 after taking a pain medicine prescribed to his grandmother. Cohen’s teammates and those that knew him say they remember the light that shined through his smile. And he didn’t limit himself to hanging out with just the cool kids. This is shown in the film through his character Smiley’s relationship with Casey. Casey’s character is portrayed by 19 year old Charis Jeffers, a student at UNC Greensboro. She describes Casey as passionate and loving, but very insecure and reluctant to build friendships. Smiley understands and encourages her. The football team ultimately becomes her safe haven.
This is Jeffers second movie and her first leading role. Although the movie has seasoned veteran’s calling the shots, it’s full of fresh, young and local talent as well. 17 year old Hosanna Gourley of Winston Salem captures an important supporting role of a student with a heart condition. This is also her second movie. Find A Way is set to premier in the spring. For more information you can visit http://www.corneliusmullerproductions.com

Preacher Bob on Fear, Courage, Faith & Family

Fear, Courage, Faith & Family- by Scierra N. Bratton

Bob Thomas is from Twin Falls, Idaho and has lived in Denver. He has a grand message to share. “God’s plan and will for our lives connect with our story.
2 Kings 7
Thomas attended California Christian College in Fresno, California where he obtained his BS in Theology. He later attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago to obtain his Masters in Ministries.
“God speaks to people and let’s them know his will for them.”
Thomas was raised in the church. He says “It’s one of those intangible things.”
How did he know for sure that he had a calling to minister?
Well, he had a nudge…
at the age of 14…that’s when he knew this was his way to serve.
He participated in singing groups, played the piano and traveled as he grew in the word.

Later he married the woman that God prepared for him and they have been happily married for 38 years now. His wife helped to balance things out as he coached football, had a hobby of fishing, and juggled fatherhood.
“What you pick to do, make time investing in life you brought into the world.”
Thomas’ oldest son is now a vocational minister, priest of an Episcopal church, and dean of a Cathedral. His youngest son obtained a nursing degree and is a nurse practitioner in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Society sends the message that it’s ok to be a microwave thinker, the thought of living impulsively. But, God makes promises and commitments to encourage you to look at the bigger picture. Commenting on his marriage, Thomas proclaimed he has a strong marriage because he and his wife work together. “I was not in this for the sprint, I was in it for the long haul!”

The most memorable moment in Thomas’ ministry occurred early in life just like his calling from God to minister. He was a freshman in college at the time. He was in a dorm hallway in the middle of the night and God began to bring clarity to him as he dropped to his knees. He made a commitment right then and there to serve Christ for life. He will never forget that promise he made out of love as he continues to minister, speak and preach to the masses.

Thomas says the motivating question is “Why are we setting here until we die?” It’s clear that we make high risk decisions and do nothing because of prevailing problems from certain situations. We must choose to surrender. This is no surprising discovery- worries that are heavy on our hearts, God has already worked out. But Satan wants to keep us paralyzed, ineffective and overcome by unfulfilled dreams and goals. Thomas says monsters are merely mirages we face as we move towards our mission.

“God wants us to scratch our itches.” Meaning go for those deep desires, and make them realities. We don’t always give other folks encouragement and permission to scratch our itches, so we have to be confident even in the “little” jobs that we do because they are honorable. Folks in the ministry are often put on a pedestal, but not everyone is or even should be a full time Christian worker. “He wants us influencing every arena of life.”

Thomas expresses the importance of sharing our good news with others and not just keeping it to ourselves. “It’s the mercy of God that saves us and sustains us.” We should long to be a part of experiences in other people’s lives. Relationships are the foundation for serving God. We must first have a solid personal life and second, practice what we preach.

In The Know, January 2012

Rome D’Carlo is a 23 year-old MC out of Charlotte, NC. In a genre full of bragging and individualism, Rome goes against hip-hop’s status quo by bringing various messages into his music. He fell in love with hip-hop at a young age, with his first cd’s being Aquemini by Outkast, Roc La Familia by Jay-Z and Art Official Intelligence by De La Soul. While working as a DJ at his college radio station, Rome became more and more interested in the idea of making his own music, and in the second semester of his Sophomore year he began working with a musical collective locally known as Chocolate City. After working in two other groups (Klass Act and Ctrl.Alt.Del) he finally released his first solo mixtape, Eclectic Soul, in October of 2011. He is a student of hip-hop and it’s roots, while also understanding the need for the genre to evolve and stay relevant through new creative endeavors. In his song “Swimmin’ in Air”, Rome pays homage to the classic jazz/hip-hop sound with his chill flow and good vibes. God bless!

We MUST do BETTER!

Let’s retrack our focus to education and fulfilling our goals and dreams.

Take a step back from materialism, envy, hatred, and anger.
